Meta Majors: Tracking Student Career Interest
Margi Borck – Ellucian @ Delta College
Dave Wallace – Ellucian @ Delta College
To help students identify and pursue their educational goal, Delta College implemented meta majors that highlight within a program, including undecided, the student’s general area of interest. We are now able to track a student interest as they change from an undecided program focusing in health and wellness to becoming a dental assistant or business major. This process integrates CRM Recruit, Colleague, and CRM Advise. These meta majors provide students with a clear pathway to graduation and help them make connections between their studies and different career tracks, while also allowing targeted communications and advising to help them through the process.

Wayfinding with the Ellucian Mobile App
Lance Smith
Sinclair Community College
At Sinclair College, finding the way around campus can be overwhelming for a new student. A sprawling urban main campus with over 20 buildings and 25,000 students, Sinclair has many similar-looking locations. It was evident the college needed a wayfinding system with interactive maps to expand upon the built-in mapping capability within Ellucian Go. Sinclair enlisted the expertise of Spreo, a wayfinding leader in the industry for a pilot at its Mason location which consists of two buildings. With advanced technology such as geolocation and Bluetooth beacons, Spreo implemented a revolutionary campus wayfinding system for the campus. Now, students can use their mobile devices to find a direct path to their buildings, classrooms, restrooms, and other points of interest. With a successful rollout in Mason, Sinclair will shift to the main downtown Dayton campus location

Finding Our Path to Improving Institutional Reporting and Analytics
Kelly Chambers – Jackson College Like most institutions, Jackson has a critical need to improve the use of data for decision making, yet faces challenges to growing our infrastructure and internal analytic capabilities. Campus constituents have competing needs and ideas about the tools and approaches to adopt, and past attempts have had mixed success. While the college has a strong strategic plan, we struggled to integrate the strategic use of data into developing and measuring the effectiveness of our initiatives. We partnered with ASR Analytics to conduct a reporting and analytics assessment, explore best practices, and filter through industry jargon. ASR provided findings, recommendations, and a strategic roadmap to move the college forward. Learn the process, discoveries, and benefits that have reignited excitement and buy-in across the college as we explore factors for institutional success and opportunities for early wins to drive momentum.

A Universe for Your Universes: Documenting Your CROA/BOBJ Reporting and Analytics Environment
Lennox Hardin – ASR Analytics, LLC

Your reporting and analytics environment is rich in institutional data…but what about metadata? When business logic changes, can you easily determine how that will impact your business layer, reports, and objects. Are there thousands of reports in your environment, many of them attached to obsoleted universes? Are your users clamoring for a data dictionary? Do you know which universes someone can access based on their security group? This environment requires ongoing monitoring to thrive.

To address these needs, ASR developed a software tool for the BusinessObjects platform, leveraging the SDK and APIs. Our solution documents your environment’s metadata—including source database tables, universes, reports, objects, filters, and user/group security assignments—and stores it in both a database layer and business layer for easy reporting by IT and end users. Join ASR to learn how your institution can use metadata to strategically manage your analytics environment.

How is digital transformation impacting higher education and what can you do about it? Digital transformation in higher education starts with the student experience and impacts the organization, the operations, and not just technology. What simple steps can you take to start your digitally transformation? Join us to learn about Northwood University’s digital transformation experience and how they used Higher Digital’s simple and innovative software approach to digital transformation.
Automating Transcript Processing and Review
Jim Fall – RPI Consultants

Most Admissions Departments still rely on manual data entry to capture and evaluate transcript data for new student and transfer applications. Manual processes create delays and errors that cause institutions to lose best-fit applicants and is an inefficient way to use your valuable staff. Transcript Automation solutions remove manual data entry, significantly improving both data quality and timeliness of transcript and application processing.
